Nestled in the lap of nature, Mahuadanr block in Latehar district is a land of breathtaking beauty—lush green forests, rolling hills, and pristine waterfalls. This region is home to Netarhat, famously known as the “Queen of Chotanagpur,” and the majestic Lodh Falls. While tourists are drawn to its scenic charm throughout the year, a harsh reality exists beneath this beauty. Difficult terrain, a history of extremism, and lack of basic infrastructure—especially electricity—have long affected daily life. Education suffers, healthcare struggles, and development slows down in the absence of reliable power. But a new ray of hope is emerging. SBI Foundation, in collaboration with Gramin Vikas Trust, has launched the “SBIF CONSERW – VIBHA: Renewable Energy Solutions” project. This three-year initiative aims to bring sustainable energy and irrigation solutions to 30 villages in Mahuadanr. Key Interventions Include: Rooftop solar systems in 15 primary schools, 35 secondary schools, 40 Anganwadi centers, and 8 health centers Installation of 250 solar street lights to illuminate village pathways Solar-powered rural markets, community buildings, and vegetable storage units 12 solar irrigation pumps to support agriculture Distribution of solar lamps to 600 vulnerable households The project began with an extensive baseline survey across 30 villages. Teams assessed schools, Anganwadi centers, and healthcare facilities—evaluating infrastructure, electricity access, student enrollment, patient flow, and overall conditions. Community interactions helped identify real needs on the ground. In remote hamlets like Batua Toli in Netarhat, schools exist without electricity. In Jamtoli, a newly built Anganwadi center lacks power. In Birjia Toli, a primitive tribal settlement deep within forests, electricity is absent for months, and people rely on firewood for light amid constant fear of wild animals. Orsa Path, near the Chhattisgarh border, remained cut off for years until a new road connected it—but electricity is still missing, affecting education and healthcare. In Champa village, two out of three Anganwadi centers still function without power, and the community health center struggles in darkness. Sarnadih, located near Budha Pahad—once known for extremist activity—now sees children moving towards education, yet irregular electricity hampers their progress. In Aksi village, Anganwadi children grow up in darkness due to lack of power. Sohar Path, surrounded by dense forests, faces both darkness and the threat of wildlife. Even in schools located along the Netarhat–Mahuadanr road, electrical equipment remains unused due to lack of electricity. This documentary captures both the untouched beauty and the ground realities of Mahuadanr—while highlighting a transformative effort to bring light, hope, and sustainable development to one of Jharkhand’s most remote regions.
