I Went Looking for a Failed Utopia in South America

Paraguay. A country in the middle of South America, far from almost everywhere. For over a century, that isolation has attracted people looking to build their own version of utopia. So what happens when that utopia fails? And what is left behind? Well, I thought of a good way to find out. Why don't we travel deep into Paraguay's San Pedro region and go looking for Nueva Germania — a strange settlement founded in 1887 by German nationalists who dreamed of creating their own isolated community. Would anything of that original vision still exist today? What would I find when I finally reached Nueva Germania? And how would the people living there today feel about the strange history of the place they call home? All of these questions needed to be answered. And getting there was going to be half the adventure.
