Asking the Government to listen.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly on 9 September 2026, Bevan Eatts MLA supported a motion calling on the Cook Labor Government to stop ignoring the people of Western Australia and listen to the concerns of communities. He put four things on the record: (1) Margaret River Hospital. The population has grown enormously and more than a million visitors come through the region every year. The hospital still has 12 beds. Bevan has raised it in at least four parliamentary contributions, including asking the Minister for Health in June last year when the business case would be released. It was missing again from this year's list of funded regional hospital projects. (2) Margaret River Senior High School. Built for around 700 students, now teaching over 1,200. Stage 2 was approved in 2016 and 2017. The master planning is done. The issue appears in at least nine parliamentary records his office has identified. This year's budget contained no funding, no planning allocation and no delivery timeline. (3) A family and domestic violence refuge. There is no dedicated refuge anywhere in Warren–Blackwood. Not in Manjimup, Bridgetown, Denmark, Augusta, Margaret River, Nannup or Boyup Brook. By 19 May this year he had raised it seven times in Parliament over 160 days. Harbour in Bunbury turned away 817 women and children in 2024 because it did not have capacity. (4) Fishing, wine and sandalwood. An industry shut down with around three weeks notice. A container deposit scheme expanded before producers were heard on compliance costs. A ministerial visit to a major sandalwood stakeholder that happened after the decision affecting the industry had already been made. The standard he asked the Government to meet: if it says a community has been consulted, people must have the relevant information, they must have enough time to consider it, the practical consequences must be understood, and the consultation must happen before the decision is effectively made. "The record shows that the government cannot say it has not been told." Debate was adjourned pursuant to standing orders.
