Saudi Aramco Stops Crude Supplies To Indian Refiners: What It Means For India

Saudi Aramco has stopped supplying crude oil to Indian refiners until further notice, according to The Economic Times, citing people familiar with the matter. The reported halt comes as Gulf crude flows face disruption, with Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline shut after an attack and the Strait of Hormuz remaining disrupted. Saudi crude accounted for around nine percent of India’s crude imports since the beginning of the conflict. Indian refiners can seek replacement barrels, but the immediate challenge is cost. Brent crude surged to around $108 a barrel on Wednesday and remains above $105, while tanker freight rates have also risen. Discounts on Russian crude have narrowed or disappeared, reducing its price advantage. Aramco continues selling some Saudi crude cargoes in the spot market, and some barrels could still reach India through Hormuz. However, spot purchases may not offer the certainty or pricing advantage of regular term supplies.
