Hidden deep in the Himalayas, Spiti Valley in winter is a world of frozen rivers, endless white landscapes, winding mountain roads and temperatures that push you beyond your comfort zone. It is beautiful, unpredictable, unforgiving — and impossible to experience without being changed by it. Our Winter Spiti expedition began with a diverted flight from Hyderabad to Delhi, an unexpected drive to Chandigarh, and a journey that was already rewriting our plans before we had even reached the mountains. From the snow-covered roads of Narkanda to the ancient landscapes of Tabo, every kilometre took us deeper into the unknown. Republic Day brought an unforgettable sight — the Indian Tricolour standing proudly against the white Himalayan landscape. There were riverside breaks, music, drifting in the snow, and moments of pure joy with the boys. But Spiti had another side waiting for us. In Kaza, the temperature plunged towards −40°C. The music fell silent, the cold became almost impossible to ignore, and even the simplest things felt like luxuries. A day of heavy snowfall tested our driving skills as we made our way towards Key Monastery, with visibility disappearing behind a wall of white. We hoped to catch a glimpse of the elusive snow leopard, but the mountains had their own plans. Then came the sunshine, the breathtaking sight of Kinner Kailash, and a quieter moment that made us look at the Himalayas differently. Perhaps these mountains aren't only meant to be conquered. Perhaps they're meant to be experienced. From the brutal cold of Spiti to the warmth of our final nights in the mountains, this was more than a road trip. It was a journey through uncertainty, friendship, exhaustion, wonder and reflection. We made the plans. The mountains wrote the story. This is Winter Spiti — A Journey Beyond the Road.
