Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd LL48 6LF North Wales (Welsh: Gogledd Cymru) is the northernmost region of Wales. It is bordered by the principal areas of Ceredigion, Powys, and the rest of Wales to the south, England and its counties of Shropshire, and Cheshire to the east, and the Irish Sea to the north and west. Snowdonia: Snowdonia is a region in northwest Wales concentrated around the mountains and glacial landforms of massive Snowdonia National Park. The park's historic Snowdon Mountain Railway climbs to the summit of Wales's highest mountain, Mount Snowdon, offering views across the sea to Ireland. The park is also home to an extensive network of trails, over 100 lakes and craggy peaks like Cader Idris and Tryfan. Snowdonia is the outdoor adventure capital of North Wales. Caernarfon : Caernarfon is a royal town, community, and port in Gwynedd, Wales, with a population of 9,852. It lies along the A487 road, on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, opposite the Isle of Anglesey. The city of Bangor is 8.6 miles to the north-east, while Snowdonia fringes Caernarfon to the east and south-east.Caernarfon is famous for its breathtaking castle and as a stronghold of the Welsh language. The castle and fortified complex is recognised on UNESCO's World Heritage List as one of the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe. Although the Caernarfon castle is arguably Caernarfon's biggest attractor of tourists, it is not the only thing in the town worth visiting. Caernarfon is a bustling market town with a busy port, as well as magnificent views over the Menai Strait, the channel that separates Anglesey from mainland Wales.
