International Bird Rescue Open House – What Happens When a Bird Needs Help?

What happens when a wild bird is injured and needs help? Come along with me to the International Bird Rescue Open House for a behind-the-scenes look at the people, processes and partnerships helping wild birds recover and, whenever possible, return to the wild. You'll see bird rescue and rehabilitation demonstrations, including feather washing, information about pollution and fishing-related injuries, educational displays, partner organizations, lectures, rehabilitation pools, aviaries and some amazing pelicans. One of the most fascinating parts of the visit is seeing how baby birds are fed using puppets so they don't associate humans with food. That's an important part of preparing them for life back in the wild. And this isn't just a demonstration—we also get to see an actual examination of a pelican, giving us a closer look at what happens when a rescued bird is assessed and treated. The Open House provides a rare opportunity to see parts of the International Bird Rescue facility that aren't normally open to the public.
