Youtube views dropped september 2026, did the youtube algorithm change or did youtube quietly relabel your channel? In this video I walk through real analytics from my own channel to show why views tanked on a "better" video while a worse-performing video exploded. You’ll see a side‑by‑side comparison of two recent uploads: a renovation video with higher click through rate (CTR), better average view duration, and better watch percentage that got about 800 views, versus a soccer video with worse retention that still hit nearly 10,000 views. I open the YouTube Studio analytics so you can see the actual impressions, CTR, and watch time numbers behind both videos. Built For YouTube by Contentfold: https://contentfold.com From there, I break down how impressions work, why a strong CTR and watch time don’t matter if YouTube barely shows a video, and what it looks like when YouTube starts matching your channel to one type of viewer. I walk through how four of my top recent videos being about Spanish football caused YouTube to treat my "family moving abroad / travel" channel as a Spain soccer channel instead. I also talk through the uncomfortable decisions this creates: whether to keep posting travel and renovation content that gets fewer impressions, or lean into the soccer niche that YouTube keeps pushing to more viewers. You’ll hear how we’re testing more uploads, what our top and worst performing soccer vs non‑soccer videos look like, and why I don’t think a secret algorithm update is the main cause of recent view drops. If this breakdown helps you see your own channel data differently, let me know in the comments and subscribe for more honest YouTube analytics deep dives.
