Camino de Santiago - The Frances Day 10 (12th of May) Viana to Navarrete - 23km We left Viana just after 7am with a coffee and croissant in hand. It was only 8°C with a light drizzle, so the full rain kit was on. The first eight or so kilometers of the walk to Logroño was mostly along the motorway and industrial area. An easy walk, mostly flat. The city of Logroño was very much like any other large city, busy streets with people going about their day. After a quick coffee break we continued through the city heading to Navarrete. Our timing was great, as we missed a good downpour while in the coffee shop 🤩. The rest of the route was a lot more challenging as it was mostly uphill. We encountered the cutest little squirrels 🐿️ and we fed them nuts which they ate out of our hands. The scenery from after Logroño was again as beautiful as in previous days. We arrived to Navarrete at 2.30pm, literally blown into the town by an icy wind 😳. Our accommodation for the evening is in a private room in an albergue - purple painted rooms must be a thing here in Spain 😜. We visited the Church of Santa María de la Asunción (Navarrete) and were fortunate to go inside. The church is a 16th century parish church located in the highest point of town. The photos cannot capture the beautiful interior, absolutely gorgeous. Another highlight of our day. We found that most villages/towns are very quiet between 3pm and 7pm. Most bars/cafes/restaurants close their kitchen between these hours (coffee and alcohol is mostly available every hour of the day 😳). Lastly, Jen’s pronunciation of the names of the towns creates endless entertainment and laughs 😂.
