You are born in a Bosnian mountain village. You are taken from your family by imperial decree, renamed, and written into a register as property of the sultan. Sixty years later you hold the empire's seal and give orders in the name of a dead ruler. This is every rank in the Ottoman Empire, walked one step at a time, through the real career of Sokollu Mehmed Pasha: from devshirme boy to grand vizier of three sultans. SOURCES AND LIMITS Career dates follow Britannica and standard Ottoman chronology: palace gatekeeper command 1543-1546, Kapudan Pasha 1546-1551, governor-general of Rumelia 1551-1555, third vizier 1555-1561, second vizier 1561-1565, grand vizier from June 1565 until his death in October 1579. He took over the fleet after Hayreddin Barbarossa died of natural causes in 1546. He did not defeat him. The battle near Konya was fought on 30-31 May 1559. Prince Bayezid and his four sons were executed near Qazvin in September 1561, after 400,000 gold pieces were paid to Shah Tahmasp. The concealment of Suleiman's death at Szigetvar in 1566 is historical. Its exact length and the domestic details of the sealed tent come from later retellings. The line about the severed hand of Cyprus and the shaved beard of Lepanto is a polished later account, not a verbatim quote. Some minor figures in this video, including the pupil Nikola, the governor with the gift chests and the captain with the green oars, are composite characters used to show documented practice. If you want the next rank ladder, tell me which institution to climb. #history #ottomanempire #historydocumentary
