Revelation 9:1-12 Mercy in the Midst of Judgement

In Episode 80 of God’s Promises, we continue through Revelation 9:1–12 and examine the terrifying locusts released from the abyss during the fifth trumpet judgment. These are not ordinary locusts. John describes creatures with features unlike anything in the natural world—faces like humans, hair like women, teeth like lions, breastplates like iron, wings like chariots rushing into battle, and tails with the power to torment like scorpions. Yet even these demonic forces have boundaries. They cannot harm the vegetation. They cannot touch those who have the seal of God. They are not permitted to kill, and their torment is limited to five months. Their king is identified as Abaddon in Hebrew and Apollyon in Greek—names associated with destruction and the destroyer. And still, even in the middle of judgment, we see the mercy and sovereignty of God. This episode reminds us that evil is never outside God’s authority, judgment is measured, and repentance should never be delayed. We are not promised tomorrow, so when God is calling us to repentance, obedience, or surrender, today is the day to respond.
