Prince Rama Varma - Sivanai - Abheri - Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan

Prince Rama Varma, accompanied by Sri S.R.Vinu, Sri B.Harikumar and Sri V.Suresh, gave an outstanding concert at the Arkay Convention Centre, Chennai, on the 31st of August, 2019, as part of the concert series organized by Parampara, titled "God's Own Music." Though the series featured Singers from Kerala, Varma ji took things a step further, by linking together an exquisite list of compositions by Composers from Kerala too, much to the amazement and delight of the music lovers gathered at the venue and those who watched the live web streaming of the concert online. Ranging from historic figures like Maharaja Swathi Thirunal and his guru Irayumman Thampi to contemporary composers like Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan and quietly slipping in Varma ji's own cute yet brilliant little tribute to Dikshitar and Beethoven in the form of a Western Nottuswaram set to the tune of Schiller's "Ode To Joy", the evening offered a delectable bouquet of songs well known and less well known. Varma ji also came up with his own personal version of the Trinity from Kerala, which many found utterly disarming! It would be 30 years since Varma ji gave his first public concert, on the 1st of May, 2020! But I find that with increasing popularity, rather than sit back and take things easy, his passion, focus and commitment towards music, only seems to get stronger and stronger, day by day! Here, Varma ji comes up with a breezy rendition of the brilliant little song by Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan (with the delighted composer seated right in front and showering his blessings on Varma ji and his amazing team) in the Raga Devagandharam/Abheri on Lord Nataraja of Chidambaram in Thamizh, bringing out the dazzling brilliance of the Divine Cosmic Dancer in all it's glory.
