ChatGPT Recommended This Engagement Ring. Why That Wasn't Enough.

More and more, I'm hearing some version of the same things from clients: "I actually asked ChatGPT about this." It makes sense to me because almost everyone's using AI for something now. And if you're trying to figure out what to buy, but you've never bought anything like it before (like engagement rings), of course you're going to reach for a tool that gives you instant "unbiased" answers. This isn't an "AI is bad" video. For engagement rings specifically, AI can be great for understanding terminology, summarizing the differences and tradeoffs between lab grown vs natural diamonds, organizing your own thoughts and priorities, and generating good questions to ask before you buy. But here's where AI isn't great: 1. AI can't see the diamond. It can explain what brightness, contrast, and light leakage are, but it can't look at a specific diamond's video and tell you whether it's leaking light OR performing better than expected. 2. AI can't weigh your actual priorities against each other. 3. AI can't tell you to walk away from something you're excited about (which is sometimes the most valuable thing an experienced eye can do). So if you've already done the research, asked AI, read the blog posts, watched the videos, and you still don't feel confident to pull the trigger... it usually means you've gathered the information, but you're missing someone to help you apply it to your actual decision.
