चन्द्रमौली | Chandramauli | A Sanskrit Song of Shiva | Mahadev | Shiva Song | Parvati’s Song
*चन्द्रमौली — Chandramauli* is a Sanskrit devotional composition dedicated to *Lord Shiva**, imagined as a song of **Goddess Parvati beholding Shiva* — not merely as Mahadeva, the great Lord, but as the beloved, the ascetic, the dancer, the stillness beyond sound, and the infinite consciousness within all things.
The name *Candramaulī (चन्द्रमौली)* means *the One who wears the moon upon His crown*. It evokes Shiva as **Śaśāṅkaśekhara, Gaṅgādhara, Nīlakaṇṭha, Śambhu, Śaṅkara, Umāpati, Mahādeva and Sadāśiva**.
This is not intended as a conventional chant or a list of Shiva's names. The composition moves gently through different visions of Shiva — from the moon adorning His matted locks and the sacred Gaṅgā flowing through His hair, to the silence of Kailāsa, the rhythm of the ḍamaru, the cosmic dance of Naṭarāja, the stillness of Dakṣiṇāmūrti, and finally the realization that Shiva is not separate from the consciousness within.
The voice of Pārvatī forms the emotional heart of the composition.

The meaning of Chandramauli
*Candramaulī* is one of the beautiful names of Shiva — the Lord who bears the crescent moon upon His matted locks.
The moon represents coolness, serenity and luminous consciousness. Against the ascetic intensity of Rudra, Shiva wears the gentle moon. In the same form, the Gaṅgā flows through His hair, poison rests in His throat, sacred ash covers His body, and yet His face carries a quiet smile.
This meeting of opposites is at the heart of Shiva:
**Rudra and Śambhu.
Fierceness and compassion.
Silence and sound.
Death and immortality.
Asceticism and love.
Form and the formless.**
Shiva, Parvati and Ardhanarishvara
The composition also draws upon the profound symbolism of **Ardhanārīśvara**, the form in which Shiva and Parvati appear as one.
It is not simply the union of masculine and feminine forms. It points toward a deeper vision in which apparent opposites are understood as expressions of one reality.
Shiva as Chidananda
The song gradually moves from the external image of Mahadeva toward the inner experience of *Chidānanda* — consciousness and bliss.
The sound of the ḍamaru becomes the rhythm of creation.
The dance of Naṭarāja becomes the movement of the universe.
The silence beyond the sound becomes the stillness of consciousness.
And finally, Shiva is no longer experienced merely as someone being worshipped from outside.
He becomes the presence within.
**“Śabda ends, and You are the sky of consciousness.
At the deepest heart, You are Śiva.”**
A Shiva Meditation in Music
Candramauli can be listened to as a **Sanskrit Shiva song, Shiva meditation, devotional composition, Mahadev song, Sanskrit stotra, or spiritual music**.
It is intended for moments of quiet reflection, meditation, prayer, yoga, evening listening, or simply sitting in silence and allowing the music to settle within.
And may every breath become a remembrance of Shiva.
*Om Namaḥ Śivāya*
Har Har Mahadev.
