One of the sacred festivals of the Banjaras, also known as Lambadas or Lambadis, Teej is being celebrated with religious fervor and enthusiasm by the unmarried girls at the tribal hamlets. This nine-day festival, which has commenced on August 5, will conclude on August 13.
Banjaras celebrate the Teej at the beginning of the monsoon with utmost religiosity, the vigorous ritual dance performed to the tune of melodious songs. The meditative mood of the Banjara dancers and their sacred chores, the burning of the sacred fire and the occasional canopy of smoke raised by ceremonial burning of pancakes in fire inculcate sacred feeling among the tribals and holy atmosphere descends upon the Banjara tanda.
