At 297 metres tall, seeing it half-frozen is something truly special. In the distance, the mighty Jungfrau massif watches over the entire valley, reminding you just how small you are in this landscape. Lauterbrunnen is also an incredible base for exploring the region. From here you can hop on a cable car up to the car-free villages of Mürren or Gimmelwald, or take the cogwheel train up to Wengen for skiing and snowshoeing with jaw-dropping views. When the season is right, Trümmelbach Falls — a glacial waterfall thundering through the inside of a mountain — is an absolute must. In the warmer months the valley transforms into a hub for paragliding, BASE jumping, canyoning and hiking, with 72 waterfalls cascading down the valley walls all around you.
