Press the handle and it looks obvious: a rush of water shoves everything down the drain. But that rush alone isn't what empties the bowl. We follow the water from the tank to the hidden bend behind the bowl, watch the trapway fill and start a siphon, find out what really moves the water, and explain why a flush ends with a gurgle — and why a bucket of water can do the same job. 0:00 The push myth 0:43 A tank full of falling water 1:38 The bend that blocks the sewer 2:32 Starting the siphon 3:21 What really moves the water 4:43 The gurgle and the refill 5:52 Less water, same job 7:03 Recap Simplified illustrations of a generic siphonic toilet, not to scale, no brands. Colours: blue = water, yellow = pressure. Narration uses AI-generated voices (ElevenLabs default voices "Liam" and "Matilda").
