Enter Ye Into the Joy of Your Lord | The Celestial City — Song VII *“Enter ye into the joy of your Lord.”* The gates have opened. Christian and Hopeful have crossed the river, completed their pilgrimage, and come at last to the Celestial City. Their burdens are gone. Their mortal garments have been left behind. Now they enter clothed in shining raiment, with harps for praise—and the bells of the City ring for joy. *“Enter Ye Into the Joy of Your Lord”* is Song VII in our musical journey inspired by John Bunyan’s *The Pilgrim’s Progress*, and the first song in the final movement: **The Celestial City**. This project began with **Crossing Over**—songs written especially with those approaching the end of life, and the family and friends walking beside them, in mind. The second movement, **Entering In at the Gate**, followed Christian and Hopeful as Heaven came out to welcome the pilgrims home. Now the perspective becomes more personal. We have followed Christian to the Gate. In these final songs, we begin to place ourselves in the pilgrim’s story: **The gates stand open before me. The long road lies behind.** The imagery comes from Bunyan, but the hope comes from the promises of Scripture. For the believer in Jesus Christ, death is not the final destination. Christ is. The crowns, the harps, the shining garments and even the golden City are not the greatest treasure waiting beyond the Gate. *Jesus is.* The One we have known by faith will be known by sight. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face.” — *1 Corinthians 13:12* That is why this song returns to a theme running through the entire project: **Safe in the arms of Jesus, Home with Him forevermore.** We have not yet seen His face, but we have learned to know Him. We have known His voice through His Word. We have known His promises in our darkest hours. We have seen something of His love through the kindness and encouragement of His people. We have sung of Him, prayed to Him, trusted Him and followed Him by faith. And one day there will be no veil between. Bunyan writes that when Christian and Hopeful entered the Gate, they were given shining garments, harps and crowns. Then they joined the praise of Heaven: *“Blessing and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” — Revelation 5:13* This song is intentionally gentle. Its joy is not meant to be hurried or triumphant in an earthly sense. It is the quiet joy of arrival—the weary pilgrim discovering that everything Christ promised was true. For someone nearing the end of the earthly journey, may it bring peace. For those keeping watch beside someone they love, may it bring hope. And for all of us still walking the road, may it remind us where the road leads. **The journey is complete. The joy begins.** --- About the In the Arms of Jesus Song Project This collection is a musical journey through the closing chapters of John Bunyan’s *The Pilgrim’s Progress*, created around the Christian hope of passing from this life into the presence of Jesus Christ. The songs unfold in three movements: *I. Crossing Over* — facing the river, fear, faith and Christ’s promise: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee.” *II. Entering In at the Gate* — Christian and Hopeful are welcomed, escorted home, and brought before the gates of the Celestial City. *III. The Celestial City* — the Gate opens, faith becomes sight, sorrow passes away, and the pilgrim enters the everlasting presence and joy of the Lord.
