When a cooperative housing society opts for redevelopment, it starts a progression of events that individual society members cannot control, and even the entire managing committee is not in control of. The checks and balances system gets overridden, and there is no force to counterweigh the actions of the builder. The managing committee members are usually biased in favour of the builder, and this makes individual members of the society helpless to control the builder.
