The signs of food addiction aren't a listicle someone invented for the internet. They're a real clinical screen, and this video walks you through all seven of them. In 2009, a doctoral student at Yale named Ashley Gearhardt took the eleven diagnostic criteria psychiatrists use for substance use disorders and rewrote each one to refer to food. The result was the Yale Food Addiction Scale, still the primary instrument in food addiction psychology. Seven of its criteria are the warning signs you'll count here: eating more than you planned to, failing repeatedly to cut down, cue-driven cravings that arrive before you decide anything, tolerance, withdrawal symptoms that peak two to five days after you stop, concealment and social withdrawal, and continuing despite knowing the cost. You'll also get the part most videos leave out — the real scoring threshold, what the prevalence figures actually say, and why food addiction is still not a DSM diagnosis and remains genuinely contested by serious researchers on both sides. If several of these signs land hard for you, that's worth taking to a qualified professional. #FoodAddiction #FoodAddictionPsychology #SignsOfFoodAddiction #UltraProcessedFood #Psychology #Neuroscience #BingeEating #CompulsiveEating #EatingPsychology #Dopamine #MentalHealth #FoodCravings
