Walking Through a British Woolworths in 1979 — Aisle by Aisle

Saturday, the 6th of October, 1979. We walk through a British Woolworths from the pavement to the stockroom door, aisle by aisle, and we do not skip a counter. The sweet counter with its scales and paper bags. The singles rack in chart order. Winfield on everything. Airfix kits, Action Man and a stand of small plastic figures nobody yet understood. Egg and chips in the café at the back. Every price, every brand and every smell is the one that was really there that year, in a shop that was on very nearly every high street in Britain, and is now gone.
