Novel set in MOROCCO (The Country of Others)

A story set around Meknes, Morocco in the post war period, 1950s. Mathilde joins her husband, Amine, in the country and is confronted by a very different country, where women have nothing like equal rights. It is set against the fight for Independence (which finally took place in 1956) and has a rich sense of place and time. Amine has variable moods and she focusses on home and family - sometimes they get on ok, sometimes it is a trial. The story is inspired by the author's own family experience.
