Biu Tze in Sport Wing Tsun A short video in the Wing Chun threads this month in responce to the grappling and pummeling videos had a nice Biu Tze feel to it and I mentioed it. Agent OO regularly posts his Sport WT training and in this edition we see clean insertion leg and other WT Third Form footwork. It is very hard to make a direct comparison to a form. I am proposing a premise that sport rules are the same as "uncomfortable positioning'"and thus use the Biu Tze technology for inventing slutions. The Form is the vehicle to remeber the partner sets and drills, so these things get labeled as forms or engines or sections...But there is a difference between Second Form Chum Kiu skill expression and the fine details of Third form, and I hope this video helps others see it. It is hard to see, but Agent OO gets his left leg into a leg jam to pin the right leg of his friend from the out side in the first exchange, before he does the slant kick. Then the opponent gets deeper and the retreating Huen Bow step is used. Finally the whipping spine and 180 degree turn is used to thwart a takedown. This last move could also be a strike, hitting the failed grappler as they fall. Finally, one part is unclear about forms. I mean to say that although the WT student might not learn the Biu Tze Form for a very long time compared to other Wing Chun families, the forms are taught as Chum Kiu Chi Sau Sections first anyway, or as footwork and punching drills for beginners. So we do teach it as needed in practice, and the Form itself is only added at a certain point. (Hint: Students should be reaching underneath as a natural result of good chi sau BEFORE they do the Biu Tze Form because the Form itself influences this reach under habit. Doing the Form too earlier would cause the reach under to become a type of "method" or action instead of merely a result of the situations flow.)
