Cheap Rifle vs. Expensive Rifle: Does Price Buy ACCURACY?

The barrel does not know which rifle it is going to become. That is not a figure of speech. Sako and Tikka are built in the same building in Finland, and the barrels for both come off the same cold hammer forging machine, out of the same steel, on the same day. When a barrel comes off that machine it has not been assigned yet. It might end up on a rifle selling for eight hundred and fifty dollars, or one selling for four thousand. Then somebody took them to a range and shot them side by side at a hundred meters, five rounds each, same ammunition. The cheap rifle won — under eight tenths of an inch, against about an inch and a half. So what exactly is the other three thousand dollars buying?
