Clearfield Mountain Speedway, now known as Central Pennsylvania Speedway, has a history of racing that dates back to the 1960s: 1960: The original Clearfield Speedway was built by Dean Luzier, Rodney Luzier, and their Uncle Elwood. Shutdown: The dirt track was closed due to the construction of Interstate 80. Renamed: The track was renamed Central Pennsylvania Speedway. Racing legends: Some of the racing legends who raced at the track include Clete Husted, Dirty Dave Srock, Tom Merryman, and Steve Peles. Paved: In 1986, the track was paved with asphalt, which led to NASCAR sanction races. Converted back to dirt: In 2004, the track was converted back to dirt and the oval was shortened.
