Before crossing into Mexico with the whole family, all our luggage, and our gear, my son and I did a full dry run to test the route. In this video, we head down to the Suchiate River border between Tecún Umán, Guatemala, and Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico. We hop on the famous tire-tube rafts across the water, see how the border transit works without traditional passport checkpoints, grab a local bike taxi/tuk-tuk to the bus terminal, and track down a local SIM card (phone chip) to get connected. Scouting out the logistics ahead of time made a huge difference before doing the full run with everyone. Here is what crossing the river raft border looks like on the ground! In this video: 0:00 - Scouting the Border Route 0:45 - The Raft Crossing on the Suchiate River 2:15 - Arriving on the Mexican Side 3:30 - Bike Ride to the Bus Station 5:10 - Finding a Local SIM Card & Logistics 6:30 - Final Verdict: Is It Ready for the Family?
