The enormity of the country demands the Flying Doctors fly over 4.8 million kilometres a year. From the dense remote tropics to the sizzling +50°C heat of the deserts, they are faced with extreme conditions every single day. Rural outback Australia requires the use of makeshift landing strips on unknown terrain. As the first ever air ambulance service in the world, their service was pioneering and many countries since have based their own services on the mission and principles of the RFDS. Using our unique aviation expertise and first time ever granted access, The Flying Doctors is a dynamic and in-depth series about the day to day workings of the RFDS. The magnificent but treacherous terrain in which the Flying Doctors need to navigate, promises a nail biting and captivating experience for our audience. They follow teams of pilots and paramedics in each episode allowing them to get to know the team and follow them in their challenges. This also makes each episode self-contained. Each episode spans numerous locations in the vast and diverse areas of Western Australia. From cityscapes to rural remoteness, both scenery and characters present our audience with opportunities to experience varied and compelling stories from exciting and often remote parts of the world. The observational style of the series is mixed with on the spot and on the go interviews to camera from the field as well as in the operations rooms, from pilots and paramedics to patients.
