Drew Chapel Service, Noon, Thursday October 22th 2026

In 1964, just weeks after Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke at Drew, urging students to take action for civil rights, demonstrations erupted across Madison as students and community members protested barbershops that were discriminating against Black patrons. Ultimately, this led to the NJ Supreme Court Case, "Sellers v Philips" putting Drew and Madison at the center of the national Civil Rights movement. Join us for a special commemoration of these events, starting with worship in Craig Chapel at 12pm on Thursday, October 22nd. 12pm Service in Craig Chapel with special guest Dr. Arthur Jones 1:30pm Symposium/Archive Presentation in Craig Chapel 3pm Plaque Dedication on the Grounds of the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts 4:30pm Reception at the Museum The service and symposium will both be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook.
