So the second most important scan is called the NT scan. NT stands for nuchal translucency. This scan is done between 11 to 14 weeks. This is an important scan . So it is around 3 months that we do this scan that's around 12 weeks . So by third month the baby's face brain spinal cord would have developed and we see specifically. If there are any abnormalities in this region now. NT stands for nuchal translucency. This is a measurement which we take there is a small amount of fluid which is there behind the nape of the neck . So this measurement is called the NT measurement and this is important because we see that in babies who have certain genetic abnormalities like down syndrome this NT measurement is increased. So this is a very important scan it has to be done specifically at this gestation age itself after taking the NT measurements. It is correlated with a blood test called the double marker test or the first trimester NT plus quad test. So certain hormonal assay is done in the maternal blood and the NT measurements both of them they are correlated and then we predict whether there is any risk of having genetic abnormalities mainly the Down syndrome and other two syndromes like Edward syndrome and Papau syndrome. So this is an important scan NT scan done between 11 to 14 weeks. Other than that it also detects something called neural tube defects which are defects in the central nervous system and the spinal cord NT scan is an important scan. I would like to say you're not supposed to miss this because it gives an early information about any abnormalities that could have been in the baby.
