The game is built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, and it shows. This is the most immersive, most terrifying, and most grounded Gears has ever felt. The tone is darker and grittier than anything the series has done before. The Coalition went out of their way to restore fear and dread to the franchise, and it works. Familiar enemies are more threatening, and they're joined by all-new creatures and villains that reestablish a true sense of horror. This is not a power fantasy. This is survival. Gears of War: E-Day has been praised for its "brutal, beautifully gory" combat, its "stellar graphics and sound design," and its willingness to lean into horror in a way the franchise hasn't done since the original.
