In April 1945, within a single day and night, Hitler's two most powerful lieutenants made their moves: Göring sent a telegram with a ten o'clock deadline, and Himmler offered the Western Allies a surrender through Count Folke Bernadotte.
Six days later, Hitler's political testament expelled them both and named Dönitz, Goebbels and Bormann in their place. This documentary follows the testament's charge back through four years of rivalry among the men around Hitler: the secret succession decrees of 1941, Bormann's rise beside the Führer, the Stalingrad airlift promise, the power vacuum of 1943, Himmler's growth after July 20, 1944, and the last days in the bunker - ending at Flensburg and Lüneburg in May 1945.
Topics: Hitler's political testament (Nuremberg document 3569-PS), the 1941 succession decrees, Hermann Göring and Martin Bormann, 'working towards the Führer', the Stalingrad airlift, Himmler at Posen, the Göring telegram of April 23, 1945, the Bernadotte talks at Lübeck, and the Dönitz government.
