Sh. Abbas Ismail discusses the following line of Ziyarat Jami'a Kabira from the 6th Volume of Ay. Jawadi's commentary: وَآتَيْتُمُ ٱلزَّكَاةَ 1. What do the words in the lines mean (ataytum and zakat). 2.. The word "zakat" in all the Makki and some of the Madani verses mean "charity." 3. Zakat is an important act of worship and needs a very pure intention. 4. Many people give zakat but none match the way and manner of the giving of the Ma'sumeen e.g. Imam 'Ali giving zakat in Ruku (Qur'an 5:55); they gave when they were in greatest need (76:8); they give in such a way that they do not expect any reward (76:9); they do not discriminate between those in need - they give to Muslim and nonMuslim (76:10) 5. We are often asked: "How come you Shi'a do not give importance to Zakat?" Ay. Jawadi answers this. 6. How Zakat gives increase (barakaat) to the wealth. 7. Charity from money that is haram to begin with. Report from Imam Husayn ('a). 8. The danger of miserliness and greed. 9. The cure for miserliness and greed (Qur'an, 59:9, 9:103). 10.
