Debut ! Anita Carter "Just When I Needed You" First Female Opry star to solo on national television

This performance by Anita Carter of the Carter Sisters was the very "FIRST" solo of a female Grand Ole Opry star representing "hillbilly or country" music on national television. The date was May 21st 1952 and the show was the NBC affiliated Kate Smith evening hour. Grand Ole Opry stars traveled to New York 3 months in a row, March 26th, April 23rd and May 21st of 1952. The Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle were the only females and the only Opry stars to perform on each of those first 3 nationally telecast shows featuring the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville at the Ryman auditorium.. Carl Smith emcees, Lonzo and Oscar and Moon Mulligan also performed on this show. The month before, April 23rd Anita was the first and only female Opry star to sing the most memorable duet with Hank Williams on national television.
