India Prepares for Summer Power Demand | 229 GW Peak Demand Expected in April

India is preparing a multi-pronged strategy to meet the expected surge in electricity demand during the summer months. The government anticipated peak power demand of 229 GW in April 2023 and directed power utilities to ensure adequate coal stocks, maximise coal-based and gas-based generation, optimise hydropower availability, and strengthen coal transportation through the railways.
