The 1960s were an era obsessed with the future, and Detroit produced some of the most futuristic American cars ever built. From the incredible 1963 Chrysler Turbine Car, powered by a gas turbine instead of a conventional piston engine, to the revolutionary front-wheel-drive 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, these cars introduced technology, engineering and styling that seemed decades ahead of their time. In this video, we explore 10 of the most futuristic American cars of the 1960s, discovering the unusual technology, innovative engineering, space-age interiors, hidden headlights, aerodynamic experiments and fascinating stories that made them so extraordinary. You’ll see legendary machines including the Studebaker Avanti, Dodge Charger Daytona, Cadillac Eldorado, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C3, Chrysler 300F, Chevrolet Corvair Corsa Turbo, 1966 Dodge Charger and Ford Thunderbird.
