n8n for Beginners: Build 3 Real Automations, From a Schedule to an AI Agent (n8n 2)

Learn n8n by building three real automations, from a simple schedule to an AI agent, on n8n version 2. Each one adds a little to the one before, and one small demo shop (a product list, a contact form and a team channel) ties them together, so you see every result on screen. What you build: 1. Low stock alert: a Schedule Trigger, an HTTP Request to read the products, a Filter (stock less than 5) and an Edit Fields node write one message per product that is running low, and a second HTTP Request posts it to the team. You see items in action: 6 products in, 2 through the filter, 2 messages out, and nothing at all when nothing is low. 2. Contact form: a Webhook receives the form, an IF node checks for the word refund, and refund requests reach the team at once. Test URL vs production URL, the "webhook is not registered" error and why it happens, and Publish. 3. Shop assistant: a Chat Trigger, an AI Agent with Claude Haiku, Simple Memory and an HTTP Request Tool that reads the same product list. A system message that says never guess, a follow up question that needs memory, and a product the shop does not sell. Also: where to run n8n (Cloud or self hosted), the five words to know first (workflow, node, trigger, items, expression), authentication and why keys never go in the URL, executions, when to use AI and when plain nodes are better, tokens and cost, the next nodes you will meet (Code, Merge, Loop Over Items, Wait, Switch, app nodes), good habits and five beginner mistakes. Everything was built live on n8n 2.42, so the screens match what you see today.
