Welcome back to the Swiss Hiking Series! 🏔️ Today, we are heading into the heart of the Bernese Oberland to visit one of the most famous alpine lakes in the world: Oeschinensee (1,578m) above Kandersteg. Instead of staying on the crowded lakeshore, we start early at 6:00 AM to enjoy the quiet morning atmosphere before taking on one of Switzerland's most breathtaking T4 alpine trails: the Fründenschnur. This narrow, highly exposed ledge is carved directly into the steep cliffs high above the turquoise waters of Oeschinensee. Secured with continuous steel cables, it leads us around the lake to Underbärgli and up to the remote Fründenhütte (2,562m), sitting right beneath the massive Fründen Glacier and surrounded by 3,000-meter giants like the Blüemlisalp and Doldenhorn. Along the way, we even meet a colony of wild Alpine Ibexes! (Note: Due to rockfall risk at the "Spitze Stei" area on the right side of the lake, accessing Fründenhütte via Fründenschnur on the eastern side is the main route). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wandern über dem Oeschinensee! 🇨🇭 In dieser Episode starten wir früh am Morgen in Kandersteg und wandern zum weltberühmten Oeschinensee im Berner Oberland. Von dort geht es weiter über den Underbärgli auf den spektakulären Blau-Weiss markierten Alpinwanderweg (SAC-Skala T4) – die Fründenschnur. Dieser ausgesetzte, felsenfest mit Drahtseilen gesicherte Bänderweg führt uns direkt an der Felswand entlang bis hinauf zur Fründenhütte (2562m) am Fründengletscher. Unterwegs treffen wir auf wilde Steinböcke mit Blick auf das Blüemlisalp-Massiv!
