Sunday Sermon 9.27.26 (The First of Signs Revealing Christ)

What does it mean when the ordinary becomes extraordinary? In John 2, we encounter the first of eight carefully chosen signs in the Gospel of John, each one designed not merely to impress but to reveal. At a wedding in the small village of Cana, where running out of wine was not just an embarrassment but a social and legal catastrophe, Jesus quietly transforms 120 to 180 gallons of water into wine of superior quality. No dramatic gestures, no lengthy prayers, just a simple command and the creative power of God at work. This sign points us to something far bigger than a wedding rescue. It pulls back the curtain on who Jesus truly is: the Creator God in human flesh, the one through whom all things were made. The Gospel of John tells us these signs were recorded so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that in believing, we might have life in his name. As we explore this passage together, we are invited to ask ourselves what we truly believe about Jesus, and whether that belief is shaping the way we live.
