*Please watch in full-screen 1440p!* Another no-miss run! Decided to play and record all stages and endings & glad to get a couple no-death clears. Recently started recording this again due to some random twitter drama from a Japanese emulator developer who decided to use my 7 year old video of the core's early state as an example of why FPGAs aren't "perfect" & afterwards I decided to play some new routes. My thoughts are below. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com
Regarding FPGA being "perfect", its sad to see the marketing from companies like Analogue and overzealous folks expressing "ZOMG FPGA IS ALWAYS BETTER" online that we have this kind of drama come up from time-to-time. It's all up to the skill of the developer and the time taken to measure & implement things accurately. From this perspective, the PC Engine core on MiSTer FPGA is the best way to play this system besides original hardware and has been for a while now. Analogue consoles will never achieve the same level because they are abandoned after a few patches. The Analogue Duo does not even render the most popular game on the system Rondo of Blood accurately and likely never will, not to mention countless other games that will always have issues. Open source is the way- it invites expertise and feedback from a community of passionate fans and developers alike. It's never perfect right out of the gate. Things like original design documents are often not available, therefore precise measurement is often needed to get things right. This all takes time and dedication from skilled developers. Thankfully we have many skilled developers and subject matter experts working with the MiSTer FPGA project and it will continue to evolve and improve over time, without the constraints that corporations must take into account like profit viability to justify long-term support.
The game looks stunning with the Original PC Engine palette. One suggestion though, when dealing with Turbografx/CD games in general: Take precaution when adding gamma correction, as you will notice color-shift a bit more than most other systems, even at low values. SNES is like this as well. You can easily alter the composition of the scene to something that is not intended.
MiSTer's PC Engine core was transformed into the most accurate way to play this console besides original hardware, largely in part thanks to efforts by srg320. You can support his efforts to preserve classic hardware at his patreon: / srg320
Special thanks to David Shadoff for fine-tuning and maintaining the core.

None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. It cannot be overstated how much he has done and continues to do for this project, since its beginning. You can support him either at his Patreon in the link below, or on Paypal, depending on your preference. MiSTer is a paradigm shift in how we can experience these classic games. This is a long-term preservation project that will continue to grow so that gamers today and in the future can experience these excellent systems as accurately and lag-free as possible. Donating what you can will help keep the updates coming. Thank you.
