The T65A matriline, led by the matriarch Artemis (born 1986), consists of mammal-eating Bigg's (transient) killer whales. Known as the "goddess of the hunt," Artemis and her family are famous for frequently visiting the Hood Canal in Washington's Puget Sound to hunt harbor porpoises.
This family consists of (Not all present in this video):
T65A (Artemis) The core matriarch and mother of six known calves, easily identified by a distinct notch at the top of her dorsal fin.
T65A2 (Ooxjaa) Artemis's eldest fully sprouted male offspring, born in 2004, featuring a prominent dorsal notch.
T65A3 (Amir(a) A fully sprouted male born in 2007 who frequently separates from the core family to travel independently or alongside other solo transient males.
T65A4 (Ellifrit) A female offspring born in 2011 who travels closely with the family unit.
T65A5 (Indy) A younger male born in 2014 well-documented for independent travel patterns away from the core matriline, occasionally teaming up with his brother Amir(a).
T65A6 (Callisto) The youngest female calf born to Artemis in the spring of 2018.
With a sense of purpose, these magnificent creatures embarked on their hunt, expertly seeking out porpoises amid the tranquil surroundings. Their journey unfolded slowly but surely, guiding them toward Seabeck, where a breathtaking close-shore pass awaited. This extraordinary encounter with nature showcases the beauty and splendor of the Orcas in their natural habitat. Join me to witness this incredible moment captured on camera!
