I decided to stop and walk the whole main street to see what it's actually like today. What I found was a place that feels like it hasn't changed much since the 1990s . Open air restaurants, older style hotels, the kind of laid back atmosphere that used to define Bali before everything got polished up. It's not exactly buzzing, but it's not dead either and I came away thinking it gets a rougher deal than it deserves.
