Epica – “Design Your Universe” LIVE REACTION | First Time Hearing Epica

Welcome back to Daxtastic Reactions — all killer, no filler. By popular request: Epica performing “Design Your Universe” live. I’d never heard of this band before you all started recommending them, so this is a true first listen. There is a LOT going on in this song. It opens with a big acoustic build, slams straight into huge crunchy guitars, stops on a dime, and drops into a beautiful, floating vocal. Then come the growls, the atmospheric layers, and more transitions than I could count. The symphonic side feels even more pronounced here than in the Nightwish songs I’ve reacted to. Honest take: I’m more of a clean-vocal guy, so the growls aren’t really my thing. But the storytelling is incredible. Like the other symphonic metal I’ve heard, it plays out like a movie, and pulling that off in a song this long is an art. 🎧 Song: Epica – Design Your Universe (Live) 💿 Originally from the album Design Your Universe (2009) 🇳🇱 Epica — symphonic metal from the Netherlands Comment below: • Who’s the singer, and has she been with them long? • Floor, Tarja, or Epica’s singer: who’s your favorite? • Where does Epica rank in the symphonic metal world?
