Fish and seafood prices are rising almost twice as fast as normal this year, and it's not just one reason.
The USDA expects seafood to cost about 6% more in 2026, nearly double its 20-year average. Tariffs, record diesel prices, an El Niño hammering Peru's anchovy catch, overheating oceans and new trade bans are all hitting at the same time. Some restaurants have already cancelled their Friday fish fries, while shrimp is quietly getting cheaper.
