Does every law firm really need to scale? In this episode of The Founding Partner Podcast, Jonathan Hawkins sits down with New Orleans personal injury attorney David Vicknair to talk about building a firm on your own terms. David shares how intentional growth, memorable client hospitality, bold marketing, and investing in the right people helped shape his firm, and why growth only works when you know what you actually want to build. My practice is focused on personal injury litigation, maritime injury litigation, property damage and casualty loss litigation against insurance companies, and representing individuals and small businesses in class action litigation. I am heavily focused each week on managing and training our legal teams, overseeing, and supporting our marketing efforts and strategy, and ensuring as our firm grows, that our core values and mission statement are continually prioritized. Our goal is simple: to ensure that we provide the best result and hospitality to every single client, no matter the size of their case. One case I began handling right out of law school shaped how I viewed the way litigation is handled in Louisiana courts and opened my eyes to how insurance companies handle litigation and the people they are supposed to protect, their insureds. Steering that case through trial, and ultimately to settlement after a jury was selected, taught me what it meant to fight for my clients. I am grateful for that family placing their trust in me and sincerely am humbled with each client and family who places their faith in our Firm. Every case I have either successfully steered to verdict or settlement has taught me invaluable lessons. One of the lessons I have consistently been reminded of in litigation is humility. Every win is inches away from a loss. The details, hours put into case preparation and review when no one is around, and attention to detail is what separates a win from a loss. If you put your trust in me and one of our legal teams, you can be assured we will pay attention to every detail of your case, and that you will be provided first-class legal services. I have been able to argue appeals at various Louisiana Courts of Appeal and the Louisiana Supreme Court, as well as the Federal United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal in business litigation, personal injury, multidistrict litigation, and property casualty claims. I also was named as class counsel in multiple consumer-based class actions and have been involved in numerous multi-district litigation class actions in Louisiana, including the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, In re: Xarelto, In re: Taxotere, and Chinese Drywall. I serve on the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Professionalism Committee and have regularly given seminars and continuing education presentations to attorneys and other professionals. I have been a supporter and advocate for Volunteers of America since graduating from law school. VOA provides an amazing variety of services to the Southern Louisiana community. Their dedication to our military veterans, providing services to those with substance abuse problems, dedication to providing affordable and safe housing, development of workforce re-entry programs for those who are incarcerated, and adoption services (which are only a fraction of the services they provide Southern Louisiana) are making a positive impact on many lives every day. I am honored to serve on their Board of Directors and be a small part of that effort. I am also actively involved with Hogs for A Cause, which raises money to support families who are struggling with pediatric brain cancer. I also am actively involved with volunteering with the Pro Bono Project, which provides legal services for free to underserved communities in Southern Louisiana.
