संगीत युद्धाच्या सावल्या - नाट्याभिवाचन

१ ऑक्टोबर, गजानन दिगंबर माडगूळकर यांची जयंती. ग. दि. माडगूळकर (ग. दि. मा) हे कवी, गीतकार, कथालेखक चित्रपट पटकथाकार इत्यादी अनेक साहित्य प्रकारांमुळे आपल्याला सुपरिचित आहेत. त्यांच्या गीतरामायणाचा प्रभाव अजून जनमानसावर आहे. तसेच 'गीतगोपाल' आणि अनेक संगीतिकाही त्यांनी लिहील्या. पण त्यांच्या साहित्यकलेतला एक गुणविशेष फारसा लोकांसमोर आला नाही. तो म्हणजे नाट्यलेखन. ग. दि. मा. यांनी मराठी रंगभूमीसाठी काही नाटकेही लिहीली होती. चिंतामणराव कोल्हटकर यांच्या आग्रहास्तव ग. दि. मां यांनी एक नाटक लिहीले. तेही संगीत नाटक. या नाटकाचे नाव 'संगीत युद्धाच्या सावल्या'. त्याचे दिग्दर्शन केले होते चिंतामणराव कोल्हटकर यांनी आणि कलाकार होते चिंतामणराव कोल्हटकर, जयराम शिलेदार, चित्तरंजन कोल्हटकर, वसंत शिंदे आणि इतर गुणवंत कलाकार. नाट्यगीते ग. दि. मां यांनीच लिहीली होती आणि संगीत दिले होते बाबूराव बोरकर यांनी. आज त्या नाटकाची संहिता उपलब्ध असली तरी मूळ चाली काय होत्या ते ठाऊक नाहीत.  त्यांच्या या कलाकृतीला उजाळा द्यायचा आमचा हा प्रयत्न. Today (1 October) is the Birth Anniversary of G. D. Madgulkar (ग. दि. माडगूळकर), a very well known and revered poet and writer in Marathi. His poems (भावगीत, भक्तीगीत, etc.) and songs written for feature films in Marathi are very popular across generations of people. Geet Ramayan (गीत रामायण), the poetic story on the life of Shree Ram is immensely popular. So is GeetGopal (गीत गोपाल) the poetic story on the early life of Shree Krishna. He is also well known for his short stories and scripts & dialogues for films in Marathi and Hindi.  Besides these literary pursuits he has also written Sangeetika (संगीतिका), story presented entirely through songs and music (similar to an Opera). But what is lesser known about him is that he has written plays (Drama) in Marathi. Chintamanro Kolhatkar, a very experienced and accomplished artist of Marathi Stage, asked him to write a Marathi play and that too a musical one (मराठी संगीत नाटक). Madgulkar wrote his play Sangeet Yuddhachya Savalya (संगीत युद्धाच्या सावल्या) which was first staged in 1944 and it featured eminent artists of Marathi Stage - Chintamanrao Kolhatkar, Jayram Shiledar, Chittaranjan Kolhatkar, Vasant Shinde and others. The songs of this drama were written by Madgulkar himself and they were set to tune by Music Director Baburao Borkar (बाबूराव बोरकर ). While the script and songs are available, the music is not known today. This is our humble effort to revive that play.
