MLB wants to let the best teams choose who they play in October — not earn the matchup, pick it. Under the proposal, starting as soon as 2027 the No. 1 seed could select which Wild Card winner it faces in the Division Series, and the No. 3 seed could pick the 5 or the 6. The league says it’s about rewarding the regular season. Fans see a reality-show draft — and a gift to the Dodgers. In this video we separate the good from the gimmick. Buried in the same package are ideas worth having: a best-of-seven Division Series (finally) and a 154-game season for 2029. The goal — making the 162-game grind matter again — is the right one. But “pick your opponent” doesn’t reward the regular season; it theatricalizes it, and it manufactures bulletin-board disrespect out of nothing. And here’s the kicker: the Brewers just won it all as the best team in baseball, straight up, no gimmick required. So what problem are we actually solving? Oh, and the whole package only happens if the players accept a salary cap. That tells you what this really is — leverage, not a gift. 👉 Would you want your team picking its October opponent? 👇 Proposal is unapproved and part of CBA talks; accurate as of upload.
