Bishop Dag reads the full story of Joseph forgiving the brothers who sold him into slavery, first in Genesis 45 and then in Genesis 50 when the brothers panicked after their father died. Joseph wept, told them God meant it for good, and promised to nourish their families. It is one of the most powerful family reconciliation scenes in the Bible. From there the teaching gets confrontational. He walks through Peter asking Jesus how many times to forgive, the parable of the servant forgiven millions who then choked a man over pennies, and the terrifying warning that the unforgiving are handed over to torturers. His striking claim: the people who cannot forgive are always the most sinful people, not the most righteous.
