Playthrough of Play with the Teletubbies, Asylum Entertainment and BBC Multimedia’s 1998 PC educational activity game. A very young children’s interactive title built around Teletubbyland, simple mini-games, character activities, and live-action video clips. Rating: 6/10.
Play with the Teletubbies is clearly designed for very young children rather than for players expecting a traditional game. The structure is simple: choose one of the Teletubbies, explore Teletubbyland, and interact with small activities based on the television series. It is more of a digital playroom than a conventional adventure, and judged on those terms it makes sense.
The best part is how closely it captures the tone of the show. The bright world, gentle pacing, repeated sounds, simple interactions, and familiar characters all fit the Teletubbies style well. Activities like hide-and-seek, music, objects, the train, and video clips give young children easy things to click on without demanding much reading or coordination.
As a piece of children’s software, the simplicity is both the point and the limitation. For its target audience, the slow pace and basic controls make it approachable. For older players, there is very little depth, challenge, or progression. Most activities are short and repetitive, and the game is more about recognition and interaction than problem-solving.
The presentation is pleasant for a late-1990s PC title. It uses the characters and world effectively, and the live-action clips help connect it back to the television programme. At the same time, the interface and pacing can feel dated today, especially compared to later children’s games with smoother navigation and more varied activities.
Play with the Teletubbies is not a strong game in the usual sense, but it is a decent adaptation for its intended audience. It understands that Teletubbies is about comfort, repetition, and simple discovery, and it turns that into a gentle interactive experience. For very young children or fans of old PC edutainment, it has charm, even if the actual gameplay is extremely limited.
