Spearfishing Maui in the Eye of a Storm 🌊🌺 What happens when you book a spearfishing trip to Maui… and then find out the weather has completely different plans? By the time we realized what the forecast was looking like, the flights were already booked, the trip was planned, and there was no turning back. So five of us packed up our dive gear, spearguns, cameras, and probably left our prefrontal lobes somewhere back in Florida before heading across the country to Hawaii. This trip ended up being about way more than just spearfishing. Over the next several days, we explored Maui both above and below the water. We drove around the island looking for new places, checked out incredible coastlines, jumped into water we'd never dove before, explored Hawaiian reefs, dealt with rough weather, and tried to make the absolute most out of whatever conditions the island gave us. Some days were beautiful. Other moments had us questioning why we were even in the water. But that's also what made the trip what it was. There was no perfectly planned itinerary and definitely no guarantee that the diving was going to work out. We were basically five friends on an island with spearguns, dive gear, cameras, and a willingness to send it and figure everything else out along the way. Between the storms, freediving, exploring, questionable decisions, long days on the water, and everything that happened when we weren't diving, this turned into one of those trips where the adventure itself became better than anything we could have planned. And somehow, despite everything working against us, we still managed to put together some incredible dives, bring home a solid catch, and finish the trip the only way we know how—with a catch, clean, and cook.
