Why is Guanyin worshipped in China?

We explore Guanyin’s origin story, her dramatic transformation from male‑form Avalokitesvara to the gentle female‑figure known across China, classic episodes from Journey to the West — including the Black Bear Demon and the stolen sacred robe, and the core philosophy behind Guanyin’s compassion: kindness with firm moral boundaries, not blind forgiveness. Throughout the video, we showcase classic Guanyin‑themed murals from heritage sites including the Mogao Grottoes, Yulin Grottoes and Longmen Grottoes to illustrate these ideas. 📌 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Intro 2:08 Who Is Guanyin 3:02 Why Did Guanyin Go From Male to Female? 6:13 Guanyin's Compassion With Boundaries: Lessons from Journey to the West 9:47 Final Reference Journey to the West (1986) A Dream of Splendor #chinesemythology #mythology #mythologyexplained #guanyin #journeytothewest
